Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
We did a preliminary task we did at the start of the year. We were put into groups of 3 to create a short continuity film edit which we had to film and edit a character opening a door and crossing a room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character adding some type of dialogue. We had to demonstrate Match on action, Shot reverse shot and the 180 degree rule. My group did our continuity sequence on a boy and a girl who are in a relationship. they have problems and she slaps him and leaves him. My job was to film the footage while the other members of my group acted which was half of my job in our title sequence coursework. At first i was a bit scared to record the footage as i wasn't sure if my recording skills were good. However as the hours went along, i found myself enjoying recording more and more. I learned how to film on a basic level. After we did our recording we took our footage to go and edit. In our title sequence i helped Lucy with the editing process of our footage. I learned how to cut and slide in our footage to make the story line flow. We made the continuity sequence on Final Cut Pro. We used Final Cut Pro to do our title sequence so i was a bit familiar with some of the tools needed to create the sequence. In my GCSEs, i took Illustration and Communication so i already knew how to use Photoshop. I was in charge of creating the text which i got the text form 'dafont' which i selected a font type and transferred the font to Photoshop and created the titles for the title sequence. The voice over was created in Logic Pro by Christian as he is the most familiar with it as he does Music A-Level. The production company was also created using Photoshop.
I think that our group worked really well with the production of the title sequence, working together, agreeing with each other to make the title sequence better. I have improved my skills of the elements on the Mac computers but practicing more on it and doing more things like the multiple text i produced.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
In lesson we looked at flip cameras and Cannon camera, However the media technology that we used first, was my Nikon camera which i got for my birthday. We decided to use my camera so we wouldn't have to go through the trouble of getting one from the school that we would need to return, instead we just used mine as at the end of our shooting, i can take it home. I was excited to start to film as we needed to start so that we can finish and edit on time for the deadline. The first thing we did was go to and empty meeting room at school to film the Doctors bit where he is writing in his notebook. We used the camera at Megan's house to film all of the inside bits. Then the next day since we needed another day to film, we did all of the outside bits of the Doctor and the girl (Maria) walking. With my camera i also bought a mini tripod which is quite small but it can hold up the camera so that it is steady when we film. On the second day i transferred all of our footage onto Lucy's computer when we went to her house.
The second media technology that we used was the Mac computers. The Mac computers are a high technology computer that can make beats of a song which i thought was very interesting. We used Final Cut Pro elements on the Mac's to actually make our title sequence which we included the black and white effect and all of the transitions that we used. We used Logic Pro elements to make our voice over, we had one snippet from Christian being the Doctor and the other snippet of myself being Maria's voice. The last thing we used on the Mac's was Photoshop elements which i was in charge for making the title text for the title sequence as i was a bit familiar with the program.
We used the internet to look up what title goes after what title which was Megan's job. I looked on 'dafont' for the font of the text. We did our research about Thriller title sequences in the internet.
Overall i think i have learned a lot about technologies during making this title sequence. My group overall agreed on most thing but on some things like figuring out who should do what regarding the technologies took some time sorting out. I feel like if i was to do a title sequence again i would be able to do it more successfully using more professional technologies.

How would you attract/address your audience?
I would attract my audience by portraying the title sequence as a stereotypical Thriller title sequence. for example make sure that the audience thinks that the girl is the one who is the vulnerable one instead of the man. I would make sure that the title sequence is interesting enough so that the film is successful. For example i would make sure that the title sequence is captivating in the sense that it doesn't give any thing away but tells the story. The stars (actors) of our title sequence we decided to have Leonardo DiCaprio which the title sequence would be seen by his fans that have seen him in other films like Romeo and Juliet which would attract a female young and old audience. Similarly, the other star is Emma Watson which the title sequence would be seen by her fans that have seen her in the Harry Potter series which would attract male young and old audience. Our budget would need to be in the range of £500,00+. Our final product would attract a 14+ male and female audience of every circumstance. I would attract them as our title sequence is a suspense and confusion title sequence, so this will create a buzz of what will happen. It would whet the audiences appetite. A reason why thrillers are so popular is because it provides a thrill which keeps the audience interested and in suspense as the title sequence builds a climax at the end. Some of the audience may have personal experiences to the story line for example they mat know someone who has a mental illness and is struggling to know what is real and what is not real. Thrillers are so popular. They provide suspense as we intended.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
An institution is an organisation or company, public or privately owned that produces or/and distributes media products.
A Media institution that might distribute our media product (title sequence Captive) could be a convergence of Loinsgate and Universal Pictures. This can help our film be published and advertised world wide to all types of people whatever their profession, income, status, gender, ethnicity, disability. Universal Pictures is an American institution so our title sequence could become very successful.
Our film Captive might be distributed by a major company because it follows most of the forms and conventions of a Thriller genre film. Our film is a psychological thriller. This film will appeal the most to people who like mind game films.
If our title sequence was distributed by a independent distribute then the film probably wouldn't have a lot of publicity and it would be on Film4 as they only play independent film e.g. A Field In England and Slumdog Millionaire.
They would first put the film in cinemas internationally or normally depending on how big the distribution company is.
The film will then go out in supermarkets in the form of DVDs, Magazines, Games and other types of medias that can reach the audience.
The Internet can promote films as well. For example, online newspapers, social networks, magazines, blogs and the radio can help our film be advertised to that it is successful.
Or target audience starts at 14 as not all thrillers are scary for example. Final Destionation and Abduction. Our film is not scary at all, its just confusing due to the sterotypical gender roles switched which is one of a convention (mind games).

Final Title Sequence
After several weeks, this is our final title sequence that we successfully made:
We have completed it after several weeks of planning and producing. It took a lot of work but i believe that we couldn't do a better job as we all tried to make it better by suggestions. We took on the teacher/peer feedback and produced this title sequence. This is the final title sequence for Captive:
This title sequence reminds me of the title sequence of Sin City as they are both black and white. We changed the transition on the actual title as we asked our teacher if it looked right and she said no.
Overall i think my group worked well as a team and we all co-operated well with each other with no arguments.

Last Changes
After watching our title sequence a couple of times, we decided that we need to play around with our editing a bit more.
We added a few more shots to our title sequence to show more hints of Christian playing a Doctor
We used Bad Film which is a type of filter that we liked. The hints were the Doctor doing an experiment which they do naturally. This filter works well because it gives an old vibe to the title sequence.
The other thing that we did was edit the bit where Christian is walking along the road after Maria. Lucy used a dissolve transition which repeated his walk slightly. Some of us in the group didn't really understand why we put it in there because it make his character look ghostly which is not what we want the character to come across as. As we couldn't change the transition we just decided to make the pace a bit faster to give that bit of the title sequence a fast paced feel.
We were able as a group to say that we didn't necessarily like a bit in the title sequence and we changed it so that everyone in the group felt comfortable moving on with the title sequence.
